ABOUT
Taylor
Taylor Justus is a catcher and first baseman from Thousand Oaks, California. He attended Agoura High School before continuing his baseball career at Biola University. Today, he plays with the Texas Tailgaters. I’m from Thousand Oaks, CA. I grew up in a house that didn’t know Jesus. I taught against the idea of believing in a God my whole life until I was forced to transfer for baseball after my D1 dreams were crushed. I let go of my ego and decided to transfer to Biola University, where my life was changed by the Gospel and the people around me.

What number(s) have you worn?
85
When did you first give your life to Christ and what led you to that decision?
Fall 2022, Listening to an Athletic Chapel with Chris Hilken speaking. That led me to start talking with professors and teammates about the questions I had regarding the faith.
How has your relationship with Jesus changed your life?
It’s changed how I view people around me, especially how I can love them in a way that only makes sense if I understand how God loves us.
What challenges has your faith overcome?
Doubts and hard questions have been challenging but ultimately led to further relationship and assurance in God.
What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about believing in Jesus?
I would say that Jesus truly is who He claims to be, that He is the only true door that leads to a relationship with the Father, and that He alone provides the forgiveness for our sins.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
1 Peter 2:24
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
Because it shows us the Gospel in a clear and concise way that can easily be shared.
What spiritual discipline (prayer, study, etc.) has helped you most in your walk?
Study has really helped me, I think all have played an impact, but studying shows me the complexity of God and leads me to worship him.
What does living out your faith in professional sports look like?
I think it looks like a correct response to failure. When things go wrong in your sport, it’s amazing to see how a Christian responds in a way that shows that his / her identity is in something greater than the game.
What message do you hope fans take away after scanning your card?
I hope they know that no matter how well I play or whatever I do it’s nothing compared to knowing Jesus.
What advice would you give a younger athlete about faith and sports?
Don’t be afraid to show your faith in ways that seem different.
So, What is the Gospel?
What if understanding the Gospel was as easy as running the bases? Good news. It is. Join Mickey Weston as he steps up to the plate and walks through the Gospel using the simple, familiar rhythm of baseball. From home plate to first, second, third, and back home, faith becomes clear, approachable, and unforgettable. No religious jargon, no pressure. Just Good News explained in a way that makes sense and brings you home.
