ABOUT
Jonathan
Jonathan Luders is an infielder and utility player currently competing with the Texas Tailgaters. Originally from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, Luders played collegiate baseball at Seton Hall University after starring at Lynnfield High School. Jonathan grew up in the church and was confirmed in his faith at a young age, but it wasn’t until recently that his relationship with Christ became truly personal. During his time in Savannah, surrounded by strong Christian teammates and mentors, he began to take his faith more seriously and wrestle with what it truly means to follow Jesus.

What number(s) have you worn?
1
When did you first give your life to Christ?
Grew up in the church. I would say confirmation in church. I don’t think truly given it to Christ until last year getting to Savannah.
What led you to that decision?
Understanding the Bible is the truth. There are things that are black and white and I was in the gray “luke warm” area. Lucky to have brothers around me to understand and encourage to learn more.
How has your relationship with Jesus changed your life?
Everything is already done. It is already done. Jesus paid the price for us past present and future and we can be free to go about our lives glorifying him. We can be free with that in mind!
What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about believing in Jesus?
I would ask how come and hear them out. I would encourage them to look at certain resources (the Bible and certain pastors) to question their thinking and thought process.
The conversation may not change then right there but start to ask questions. Only the Holy Spirit can change hearts.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
1 Corinthians 16:14
Be watchful. Stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love
Who has impacted your spiritual journey the most, and how?
My Dad. He just has a way about him. It is with a lot of grace and he is able to break down and explain biblical concepts very well for me to understand. I love my dad.
What does living out your faith in professional sports look like?
Asking like Christ especially on the field. Competing with passion but not letting my emotions get the best of me.
Favorite hobby outside of baseball?
I love playing cards with my family/friends.
One thing you want to be remembered for:
Being a shining light and example of Jesus Christ’s love best I can!
So, What is the Gospel?
What if understanding the Gospel was as easy as running the bases? Good news. It is. Join Mickey Weston as he steps up to the plate and walks through the Gospel using the simple, familiar rhythm of baseball. From home plate to first, second, third, and back home, faith becomes clear, approachable, and unforgettable. No religious jargon, no pressure. Just Good News explained in a way that makes sense and brings you home.
