ABOUT
Jesus
Jesús Luzardo is a professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, known for his electric stuff and ability to generate strikeouts as a left-handed starter. Born on September 30, 1997, in Lima, Peru, and raised in Florida, Luzardo was selected by the Washington Nationals in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He was later traded to the Oakland Athletics, where he developed into one of baseball’s top pitching prospects before making his MLB debut in 2019. His fastball-curveball combination quickly made him a high-upside arm at the major league level.
After time with the Miami Marlins, Luzardo continued to develop into a frontline starter, showcasing improved command and durability. Upon joining the Phillies, he brought a powerful left-handed presence to their rotation, capable of missing bats and handling high-pressure situations. Known for his intensity on the mound and ability to dominate when at his best, Luzardo remains a key piece of a competitive pitching staff.

Favorite Bible Verse:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
My parents — they gave me a strong foundation, including putting me in a Catholic school growing up.
Who has impacted your spiritual journey the most?
Several teammates over the years who have been strong leaders in faith, including: Aaron Nola and Merrill Petit
They helped keep my focus on God throughout my career.
Favorite Music:
A mix of everything — Latin music (especially salsa), worship music, classic rock, and country
Favorite Food:
Arepas — a traditional Venezuelan dish
Pre-Game Routine:
I like to keep things light.
Day games: eggs, sourdough toast, and bacon
Night games: similar but a little heavier, sometimes adding potatoes
I prefer to feel a little hungry when I go out to pitch.
I stay calm early in the day, then start to get more fired up a few hours before the game. The energy in the clubhouse and music helps build that intensity.
Hobbies:
I enjoy cooking and baking. I can make a great tres leches dessert (a favorite from my Venezuelan background)
Favorite Baseball Memory:
I have a few. Playing in the playoffs last year, representing Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, and being drafted and making my MLB debut
